Canadian channel CBC's program The Passionate Eye apparently did a show on the Family in Feb. 95 (web archive copy of description in case it's offline), featuring Sylvia Padilla. Just posting this coz it caught my eye while doing a brief search for BBC coverage of Pearl's case (didn't find any).

Comparative Religions - Children of God: A critique of The Family of Love by Lectionary Bible Studies and Sermons. The article covers a couple points in Family history I was not previously aware of.

This same documentary was also featured on UK's Channel four documentary series "Witness" narrated by Actress Helen Mirren, these also featured a documentary about Jesus Christians (a sect of the CoG) called "Kidneys for Jesus!" filmed by Jon Ronson.

DrPhil.com: Ever a Member of the group "Children of God?"

(This has also been posted on other forums recently... Jim LaMattery will apparently be appearing on the show...not sure about other guests.)

Dr. Phil
Hey, Monger - do you know when this show is airing? I wrote them, but have not heard back - probably because I cannot appear on any shows (my children won't let me).

Here is a cool link: http://www.world66.com/myworld66/visitedCountries

It will automatically generate a world map with the countries you select highlighted. Cool for visualising all of the countries you have been to and/or have lived in.

Very bizarre to me...

Carol's Site: Carol's Essays About Sex and Growing Up in a Sexually Progressive Community

... 'tis a website by a second generation former member who was evidently exposed to sex from a very young age. She reminiscences about her sexual awakening and growing up in The Family and families whose lifestyle had been shaped by connections with The Family. Among other things, she idealizes child orgies organized by their parents, and speaks of her belief that semen is a medium of holy communion. She also speaks of organized religion (such as that of The Family) being a major source of evil, and David Berg's actions and theology being corrupted.

FYI, it's filled with sexually explicit material and not safe for work.

Bringing up Carol and Afterthoughts: The Davidito Book and the Children of God sex in particular talk about The Family.

From skimming over it briefly, I agree that it sounds very bizzare. In fact, I would go so far as to say that whoever wrote these erotica pieces (I have my doubts that they are accounts of actual events) was never in COG/The Family. Some descriptions of what went on in the homes are a little over the top and, in some cases, unrealistic.

The detail this person goes into is very disturbing.

Hmm...interesting observation. I only very briefly skimmed the pieces myself, but I don't really care to get into it more to see if I'd agree with your take.

Here's a rather negative, recent article on J. Gordon Melton by Rick Ross on cultnews.com:
