in truth, I would consider much of sub-Saharan Africa to be somehow Western in outlook, in so far of (ideally) having representative gov't, free speech, social egalitarianism, trial by jury, and so on

but regardless, the Muslim sphere and East Asia, e.g., have some of the absolute worst issues with women's rights whether de jure or de facto

and of course they don't have openly sexual displays in the media in the Middle East, they have women wearing tents and men who act all weird and fidgety

the bottom line is this: these hot sexy women that we see slathered all over TV and movies have the right to be in them. they chose to do so and no one is forcing them into it. if they feel pressure then that's another issue but it isn't quite coercion and is a situation by no means limited to the West. one of the most effective ways to deal with this kind of pressure, incidentally, is to grow a damn spine and stand up for your rights, because you can't just expect someone to save you at every turn

We do not know what causes people to sell their sexuality in some public form...Since we do not know what pressure they may be under we should not presume it is without pressure that they do so since the injury of their doing so does not fall on them alone... We do know that economic injustice always results in sexual injustice, so we should look at that situation as a sign of general malaise in society, of communities broken, and families unable to control their own, of every shiney fish jumping at the bait of easy money...The corruption at the top by money is no worse than at the bottom; but sexuallity is one of those things that no human can enjoy lightly...It is a mine field of dangers, and people are very often hurt by their own behavior...

@Fido,
Oh lighten up, we have extremes with everything in life, sexuality is not the devils work. No one is condoning enforced or illicit sex. Child marriages are a common occurrence in many societies , now that to me is legal rape of a child,something we should all abhor. If two adults decide to sexually embrace for whatever reason its their choice, its their decision and their consequences. Women can be abused by more than the act of consensual premarital sex. Rape by the husband , rape by the priest, at least displayed sexuality is to be judged openly.

There is a reason society has dictated the morality of all sexual meetings...It is dangerous, and can be disruptive, so mating is one of those things society is very correct in regulating...In many parts of the world sexual attrocities are commited against women with women often the agents of such behavior because it tames women who are often conceive as wild spirits before hand...They need to be made human, and civilized with a knife in the same fashion as male circumcision... It is too bad women have to pay such a price for a human problem which is, how to keep sexual promiscuity from destroying society, and the peace of the people...

There is not one thing that is moral that is not healthy...Morality is an essential part of culture, and our trafficing in sexuallity brings us into conflict with other cultures... It has the potential of spreading sexually transmitted diseases to even the most careful... I cheapens an essential element of the economy of honor, which is the consideration all men and women give to each other with marriage...

Now; here iis one of the way that law attacks the family broad and clear...It makes legal, activity which cheapens marriage, and causes people to hold their own spouses in contempt...It makes men look as though they care for nothing else, and they don't...It makes women look as though they will do anything for money, and they won't...Why should humanity let this lie be told???If you undercut me in the price I get for my labor beneath my cost of living, you will see me mad... Yet porn specifically, and sexual commerce generally lowers the value of relationships, of trust, and honor which no relationship can be without...

You talk like no one is lied to -to get them out of their britches, or threatened, or addicted, and not robbed afterwards...You don't know that most of them don't have a screw loose... The thing is that it injures everyone including them, and it should be resisted...

Do you think your preaching to a heathen lost in the wilderness? Don't you realise I understand your concerns? There are degrees of promiscuity and ease of sexual encounters. Im not advocating Sodom and Gomorrah.We have improved our ethical and moral responsibilities no matter what you conceive. Victorians displayed all your moral facade but beneath lurked horrors of sexual depravity the world has not seen since. Sex is a gift not to be abused but not to be vilified.

Aristippus left his daughter with the lesson to never put a price on anything she could live without...Sex is one of those things that no one can live without, though I have never tried, that setting any price on cheapens, and since it is a part of the economy of honor, and always has been, it should not have its value figured in dollars...I do not care who gives what to whom...If it is not love it is violence, but men and women can both play that game...But we should not see it sold, because, like honor itself, it is priceless...Now, you know that we have our little fettishes... One man kneels to a cross, and another to shine a car... We want to possess, not for the thing, which is nothing, but for the appearance of wealth, or power, which stands for honor...Love as opposed to sex, is the thing in itself, the same as life... Sex is the reward for suffering the inevitable pain of love, and for that, it is beyond valuation...

@ArthBH,
It never ceases to amaze me the lengths to which certain individuals will go to exploit and rationalize their twisted thinking. Xris you and Oden make a great couple. Really, you do. I must congratulate you both on what your contributions have offered me as to how not to think. What the hell is going on in your individual lives? Please tell us. Perhaps then we can find a measure of logic that will enable us to aid in your recovery. Of course the thread is about a twisted society, ha! Without you, and others like you, then perhaps it would not be so "twisted". Your right at home in it, of course you would defend it by making asinine analogies as you both seem to be so proficient at. Keep it up guys, you are indeed offering much. How many mirrors do each of you have in your homes or dens or lairs?

God, how so very lonely you both must be. Sad!

in other words:

"We don't know exactly why someone does something so we should assume my preferred cause"

evidence for this claim please

define "economic injustice" and "sexual injustice"

well last thing that happened to me I got a letter from the director of my uni congratulating me for my success the past semester

I sincerely doubt you know what logic means

and protip: it isn't any opinion you hold strongly

I always doubt people know what logic means whenever they describe their moral values as "logical" because neither deductive nor inductive logic directly lead to any kind of ethical system

well william you know the drill

I ask for evidence for claims people make

I'm not willing to accept "b-b-b-but it's HARMFUL"

My wife of forty years has just read your post and remarked , "how did he form that opinion of you dear" I have no idea, was my reply.:perplexed:
