As I've stated elsewhere in this forum, I am currently reading Hegel's "Phenomenology of Mind / Spirit" and as I was reflecting on the uses and usefulness of this forum I thought about the possibility of a book club kind of setup. I'm not sure if such a thing exists over here, but I do think that this forum could be an interesting platform to launch such a project.

I would like to hear your input on the matter, and I do have a few suggestions for and about it.

I think, if such a thing is launched, that the "books," topics or material should be easily accessible to anyone who is a member of this forum and who is interested in the topic.

If I take Hegel's Phenomenology as an example, the text and an analysis is readily available (along with many other texts) at the Marxist Archive (-> Click!)

We don't have to read a book a week, but where possible, focus our attention on a section of the book per week, and then discuss that section for a period of a week while reading the next section, etc.

Any other ideas, comments?

@-M-,
Great idea!

Maybe you should make a post under the Suggestions and Feedback forum? Justin has in the past created new forums at the request of posters and he may create one upon your request.

I'm not too familiar with Hegel's actual writings, but I do like continental philosophy, which I consider to be real. And I do not like Analytical philosophy much, which I consider to be empty technical jargon arranged around the original "Continental" issues.

@Pythagorean,
I will do that then, thank you. Smile

I'm actually astonished, and greatly surprised at the fact that you too, like me, am not particularly fond of the analytical school. :p I actually wanted to say that previously but thought that I might 'upset' someone here. Very Happy

I agree with you - analytical philosphy is almost mechanistic and dogmatic, whereas the continental tradition is just, well, so much fun. Razz

Hegel actually influenced the Analytical Tradition greatly too (as far as I know), but I am not very familiar with him either and that is why I'm reading (or trying to, at least) the basis of his thought - the Phenomenology.

Thanks again for the feedback. Smile
