I'm not sure if this is related to the Syndy or Melbourne case (probably both, actually), but, regarding the raids in Australia, the following is from Family PR material:

The Family International, in 1999, wrote:
The ordeal began when officers of the police and the Department of Community Services, conducted pre-dawn raids on Homes belonging to The Family on 15 May 1992. The raids were described as the biggest in Australia’s history and for the next four months in Children’s Court the government tried to justify their actions, to no avail. On 31 October 1992 a mediated settlement of that case was reached with the government’s initial allegations of “sexual abuseâ€

The above is a sad twisting of the actual events by Family spokes persons.

As I understand it, the allegations of sexual abuse were not addressed in court. The case was based on the fact that the warrant was not served properly because the officer in charge who was supposed to be present during the raid was instead in radio communication only.
