I'm a sophomore mechanical engineering student at a private technical institute. I've taken a couple philosophy classes and thoroughly enjoyed them. I'm a bit fuzzy on the history of philosophy, and really have only studied the most popular philosophers (Plato, Locke, Aristotle, ect.) but I feel that as someone in a math-science based field, I have the rational tools and the logical thought progression needed to make a few constructive comments.

@Moe ME,
Philosophical thinking is not limited to philosophers; one of the Themes of philosophy is that truth is found by critical thinking and the use of reason, and that it is therefore open to all men if they but attend to it.
Reading the threads may help fill in the gaps of your knowledge of philosophy, and joining in the many dialogues will improve your own thinking as well as the community's.
Welcome to Philforum!

John

@GoshisDead,
Hopefully, working towards a degree in mechanical engineering with a philosophy minor, however, my school may choose to discontinue our philosophy minor curriculum in the near future.

@Moe ME,
Well that blows, good thing about Phil, is that a lot of it can be self taught.
