Hi, as requested I am dropping by to say hello.

I am currently stuck in the south of Spain suffering temperatures up in the 120s and feeling pretty bored. So I thought it would be interesting to join a philosophy forum.

My training is in law (Iam a barrister) but I am converting my degree to psychology. I am interested in most things other than washing powder, but particularly, at present, the self, consciousness, what that is and where it's located - if it is located at all.

I am also a great believer in the power of drink to stop one from getting too anal about these things, and also for freeing up the mind. I am also a believer in reading but not living in ones reading. The texts are there to tell us something about life. Life is the subject, the books are the only text.

So, hello, this is a bit of I, and I am not spam.

Conor

@conorcorderoy,
Hi Caroline. Oh, it's a little sad. My mother has cancer and I am taking care of her. Family home is here. It is a very beautiful city, but very, very hot.

@conorcorderoy,
Im sorry to hear that. I wish her well.
We have a bit of heatwave here in Britain, i've got a hand fan that has a water pump, it's quite useful.
Yes there are many parts of Spain that are beautiful, so you are Spanish then?

@conorcorderoy,
No, not Spanish. English. Born in London, but my parents were a bit bohemian and went off to Ibizawhen I was 2. He to paint (the light is wonderful there), and she to write.

Cordoba is sensational, and my flat (7th floor) overlooks the old town, the mosque/cathedral and the river. When the moon rises it is so beautiful it's almost silly. And then there's the history of the city, which is uniquely important and yet so little known. The older Seneca was from here, as was Maimonedes. It's lovely.

Your fan sounds lovely too. What I wouldn't give for it now!
