While presently banned from sciforums.com I was looking around to see how some of the other forums are getting on when the "An email From Ebay" thread caught enough of my attention to persuade me to register.

More about me later, if you like,
with best wishes,

Ron Harvey,

P.S.

That was sneaky.

I answered a question that was then deleted, so I suppose I'd better delete the answer.

@perplexity,
Somebody sent me a PM to ask what instrument I play.

I have dabbled with several over the years but I work now with one in particular, and I wonder if anybody would care to hazard a guess at which, if they do not already know.

@perplexity,
There are a some guitars and keyboards here, remnants from a byegone age, not touched so often.

A clue: Baroque syrinx emulation.

@perplexity,
So you play sevententh and eightenth century style pan pipes. Quite interesting:) . I myself am trying to learn the guitar. Its one of my ambitions and ive always wanted to be able to emulate my 'gods'. I think the guitar is the most quintessential English musical instrument. Do you play?

@perplexity,
I spend my time at the computer screen nowadays.

There are hundreds of CDs and instruments here at home to play with but what I long for more than anything else is some peace and quiet.

@perplexity,
Do you listen or play any Zamfir?

My mother has his collection that I bought for her 50th birthday, and it's the only classic piece-works she listens to.

@perplexity,
It is not the panpipes.

I rather think that pilgrimshost was kidding over that,

but I do have a Zamfir CD here somewhere, a remarkably romantic style of "classic".

I am a JS Bach fan, harmony with structure and spontaneity all rolled into one.

@perplexity,
For some reason, I can picture you with a woodwind though.

I don't know why.
But perhaps oboe.

@perplexity,
But I know the story of Daphne, so I know what the instrument is.

Ahaaa!

But be more careful with the clue:
Baroque syrinx emulation

There is another syrinx

Why were you banned from the sciforums?

Is this something that happens often to you?

I mean, I am looking at it (sciforums) and thinking what on earth would it take to be banned from THAT site?

Regular contributors there seem to be brutal!

Don't worry.

With one possible exception I have not yet been banned from a forum that I'd not already had more than enough of, and I am not sure if the exception was a ban anyway; Yahoo subscriptions sometimes fail because of mail messages bouncing.

I make it a rule to account for myself and to allow others to account for themselves.

The last sciforum ban was for two weeks but on my own initiative I have since set up the internet connection here to stop me from visiting the site in case I forget not go back in any case.

This is mainly because of being fed up with their determination to presume to account for me.

It is all otherwise in the archive there, if you know how to make sense of it.

It has still not made sense to me to be forbidden to reveal the real name of somebody who had already elected on her own initiative to reveal the name on the same forum, nor do I see the sense in deeming that a link to a posting to a public internet forum, available to anybody to see, is reasonably to be deemed to be private information, let alone a link to a previous posting to the very same forum.

That is nevertheless what happened.
