Hello,
My name is Stuart & i live in England, online i answer to the call of schloopfeng which is a name that stems from one of life's most essential activities, the drinking of tea; for it was the sound of a tea bag leaving the spoon into a metal bin, while i was pondering on what to call myself on an underground political activist site & it sort of stuck (as did the tea bag to the side of the bin).

I am now 40 years of age & have had a colourful existence on this wonderful planet, i truly do love this world & all its complexity & make it my aim to soak up as much understanding of the world around me as i can before i die (or sit in a corner rocking and drooling into my medication cup).

I am the proud father of twin boys that are now 4 years old & i find every day my eyes are opened further through the things that they do, this drives me to further expand my perceptions to pass on as much understanding as i can to them both, while allowing their perceptions to help me to understand how best to start them off in shaping their future (basically laugh when they laugh, cry when they cry & generally go with the flow).

My main attraction to philosophy is the belief that reality as we know it is mainly man made & should therefore have some kind of manual. From there comes the belief that the pages of this manual is nicely distributed across the populous in the minds of all thinking beings & their ancestors.

I suppose what I'm getting to is forget Plato & Socrates you should have heard my Nan, She was amazing, if she said "it will all end in tears" then it usually did, an absolute prophet in my eyes. Sadly she died many years ago & the staff of wisdom is slowly catching me up as its potential bearer as i edge towards becoming the elder of the clan. The way i see it is you can never have enough wisdom & you never know where it's going to come from, you never stop learning & you should always be grateful for all opportunities of enlightenment, this is how i try to live my life & i just hope that i make it as a worthy father to 2 hopefully fruitful minds.
With that i will close for now (mainly because my bladder is busting, certainly not what it used to be, must be all the tea).

TTFN folks.
:shocked:

@schloopfeng,
In between sipping cups of tea, I hope you will find time to join our many discussions, but hopefully without spilling the liquid on your keyboard.
A very warm welcome to part of the manual of life here at Philforum.
Regards,
John

@schloopfeng,
Welcome to the finest philosophy destination on the Internet.

I caution against ditching Socrates and Plato altogether. It is not so much what they say rather than how they get to what they say that is so important.
