Hi folks,
I've just joined so here's a bit about myself. I'm now just about retired and living in West Yorkshire, England. Interests include songwriting, playing guitar and piano, recording, reading, writing and thinking. Used to be a studio engineer/producer then ran a small media company for a couple of decades. Now trying to write a book on why it would be rational to believe that mysticism is the solution to the 'problems of philosophy.' Keen lay follower of physics and also enthusiastic investigator of prime numbers.
I've joined because I like to constantly road test my philosophical arguments against the objections of opponents, and also because discussing philosophy on internet forums is a fantastic way of learning.
That's about it.

@Whoever,
It is good that you want to clarify and define your own thinking by submitting it to rational criticism from other perspectives. Philosophical thinking is a process (some might even say, a contest) that continually expands, even to the point of including, in some Hegelian manner, opposite viewpoints.
Welcome to the forums!

John
@Whoever,
Hello from Across the Pond!, And welcome to the forum. Your intro is intriguing. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on mysticism, as I remain skeptical that logic alone can provide all the answers.
May I call you "Whom" for short?

Tock
@TickTockMan,
Lol. Feel free. May I call you Tock? I also am sceptical that logic can provide all the answers, but I believe it can show us where they lie.
I likewise look forward to hearing your views on mysticism, and am intrigued that you are sceptical because logic has its limits. I would have thought this would be a reason for not being sceptical. Perhaps I've misunderstood what you meant.

Yes. I prefer that to Tick.

Darn language. Now I'm wondering if you meant "lie" in the sense of "where they are located" or as "where they speak falsely."

I often misunderstand what I mean myself. As an Existentialist Determinist, I'll have to say that it's not my fault, but I take full responsibility for my lack of clarity.

Oh yes. By 'where they lie' I meant where they are.
What's an Existentialist Determinist? Or is that too big a question for this introduction thread? Is it someone whose existentialism is determined by forces beyond their control?
Boagie - thanks also for the welcome.

@Whoever,
Thanks for a pretty picture. Funny how even though I don't know you it cheered me up. I shall do my best to steer clear of your thorns.
