What is knowledge in terms of the 21st Century, in terms of cities that we live in?

What has knowledge to do with cities (whether or not we live in them?).

because cities today are considered centers of knowledge production in which knowledge is concentrated, transferred, exchanged, etc.

That may well be true. But what has that to do with the question? Lots of tires are produced in Akron, Ohio. But what would that have to do with the question, "What is a tire?"?

hmm...maybe not wording it specifically.
