Welcome, my name is 'artaud's fire' and I am new to the forums. I am from Durham, North Carolina, and I am a starving artist/writer seeking publicity for my life's work in a strategic, seemingly practical way. Currently, I am working on artistic installations in which I create post-modern sculptures out corrugated fiberboard. I am a philosophically inclined and currently attend N.C. Central University. Antonin Artaud is my favorite writer/dramatist, while Jean Michel Basquiat is my favorite painter. Miles Davis' "*****es Brew" is to die for!

So to start off the right way I want anyone interested in essense and the nature of being to answer this....

@artauds fire,
Welcome artauds_fire!

As Aristotle said, "? a man is free whos aims are his own and not anothers, so we pursue this knowledge as the only one of the sciences that is free, since it alone is for its own sake" You can consider your life fulfilled if you believe what you create is in the best interest of your own growth and expression as a human being. But then again, that doesn't necessarily pay the bills.

It's interesting that you create sculptures from corrugated fiberboard. I have a small side business making Presepe and I use a layered foam core. I have found that the foam is a great sculpting material, people respond well to it, and I found a way to make it very durable. So I'm curious to see your sculptures. Dare I say it... I am a constructivist at heart.

Your thoughts on being are very interesting. If you want, you could start a thread in the metaphysics or ethics sections. Your thoughts seem very black existentialist though. If you are interested in that kind of thing, Lewis Gordon has some especially good books incorporating figures such as Franz Fanon and Chinua Archebe. I would defer to answer your question until you post it in a subsection though. But still, very good thoughts.

Welcome!

@VideCorSpoon,
Hi Artraud, I'm a newbie too. I'm thinking about attending Appstate next fall after taking an extended visit on campus last spring. Probably philosophy and sustainable development courses.
