@Victor Eremita,
Oh that's cute. Where's Moe?

It's from Henry Miller. I guess if it didn't come out of some dead philosophers mouth, it's a little too tough for you to figure out on your own......

Isn't Miller a dead author? But I do wish it were a juicy steak. Nothing comes out of a dead philosopher's mouth any more than anything can come out of any dead person's mouth. You know that.

I am the mouth of a dead person, my favorite philosopher, Jose Ortega y Gasset. Through me he speaks. Viva Ortega!

That's not called, "mouth". That is called, "mouthpiece".

@Victor Eremita,
"Mouth" is a metaphor. It works just fine. You understood him well enough to "correct" him.

And of course we are all influenced, very much so. Lucky us.

It's good to love the stains of a great dead mind.

The mot juste is "mouthpiece". As in, "I ain't sayin' a word until I call my mouthpiece".

@Victor Eremita,
Alright, but it's clearly a matter of taste. We humans are dopes for tropes.

Yeah, but some people skip to tropes, while other trip on them.
