The natural state of energy is dispersion; that is, energy wants to spread out through space.
Organisms contain energy; the goal of every organism is to consume energy and hold onto that energy (until death releases it). That's life.
Life opposes nature (not nature in the traditional sense of it being plants and ecology, but nature as in the natural way energy and matter would exist without life manipulating it).
Every breath you take is an act of defiance against the way of things and a continuation of life's long rebellion against dispersion of energy.
That's why life is a struggle; a battle for resources...
