Someone made an interesting point insomuch as the "killing" of the ego form of self will indeed reveal the true self of which all is one. Though the idea may be promoted, it's purpose and result can only be experienced by "suicide" of the psyche through ignoring the attributes of ego which allow expression of talents.
Abuse of ego usually results from fear of lack of personal meaning, and it seems a pity to throw the baby out with the bath water just because one doesn't feel good about oneself. The "complete vehicle" that is you is yours to drive as you see fit, in that sense you may compete in the "human race," but can never "win" so long as it requires someone else to lose.
Without an attitude that knows this, much talent is wasted and many suffer needlessly in procuring the "spoils" of life for their "masters."
Ego begat this chain of events by abuse of talents, therefore I say it is the abuse that is unnecessary, not the ego, but the cancer of abuse has taken hold and will destroy much before destroying itself.
Ego is attracted to ease and resistant to that which is hard. If it is to be used for benefit it must be mastered by its user, there is no other way, and this must be assisted by the knowing of elders so their creation can know comfort in accepting consciousness of self, and through them peace may prevail, for nothing can be known by any other means, except imagination.
If any are to survive what is to come they must acquire land, for without responsibility to the Earth that bore you, you cannot in truth be responsible for yourself
