Ethics = the highest level of fairness applied to yourself and others.

How does that sound?

No. Sorry to sound arrogant, but the reason you have trouble simplifying your principle, it that you take the wrong approach. (In my opinion.)
You try to simplify consequentialism, which is impossible because it is contradicting. Actions are right or wrong, consequences don't count.
"Ethics is doing the right thing."
