I have yet to write the great novel of my life.
Yet means it is in the pipe-works.
I have an idea for a novela i am going to write this summer.
Providing i survive the experience that the novela will be based upon?

But this got me to thinking and planning.
Do i publish it here?
Do i try my luck in another publishing house?
Do i self publish?
All of which i have little understanding or experience of.
So was hoping you guys and gals could help me out.
Any one here know of publishing mediums and places and programes?
Any one here publish a book and or paper?

I know that PappasNick has as i have his first book 'Controvert, or On the Lie and Other, Philosophical Dialogues' i dare say i will still be reading it a year from now.
But i was also curious about other published works by forum memebers.
And if this is a goal any one here has?
Then it got me to thinking...........

Do you feel you are 'published' here of the forum?
Is this forum just a preliminary for you to be published more widely later?

Most of all i need advice on places that might publish some of my work in paper or on the screen?
Do i need an agent?
Do i need an account?
Do i need a written work?
I would like to think i could sell some of my ideas to either broadcasters or publishers, because i have more ideas than i know and have the time to do anything with.
People buy ideas right?

So if anyone knows or has anything to do with publishing or the like i would be highly grateful for any input.

Avoid or answer, ignore or question,
but dont judge the quest by your fluid retention.

I will take it you dont have anything for me concerning publication.

HexHammer no one wants to ban you apart form yourself perhaps.
Act like they should or as you would.
But please this is a genuine enquiry for me and of great importance to my life, so if you dont mind could we do this someplace else and not in this thread.

Ask advice from an experienced writer/publisher, for which purpose do you want to publish/write?

it is a very difficult choice between publishing and self publishing. oft times self published materials are seen as "below average works" because "the author couldn't get a publisher". However getting a publisher is tricky. My advice would be to research niche publishers. Some of them do not require things to be submitted by an agent, whereas the large publishers often will not accept things that are not submitted through one of their trusted agents. Samll or niche publishers often serve as their own agencies and are more likely to publish something that is written with talent but not written for a mass market or from someone who has not established a name in the mass market. If all you want to do is get it out there audience be damned, so to speak, self publication is a gem.

To become immortal of course.
But on a more practical level i want a job i love doing, i wants to gets the money.
Imagine that, being paid to imagine.
When i am at task or have a job i am engrossed.
Writting and dreaming is my pleasure.
But i need to make it my profession.

But then i would also like to have input in my own creations, so need to be able to write what they are looking for, i think they are called treatments, i would like to know how to do these and what and where to start sending them to.

No i need more than self publication.
BUt still would rather just get it out there than it be nowhere.

My Publications have been academic or under contracted dissemination. However, my wife is a talented fiction writer and is working with a local niche publsiher to get her work out. So my knowledge of generalized publication is restricted to what my wife is doing. I have not written anything non-academic that was worth publishing, maybe someday, but by then maybe my wife will have done the footwork for me.

I am so jealous of PappasNick, just holding his book makes me green.
Let me give a quick description of his book;

It is going to take me time to read but i think it so exciting we have amongst us a published author.

I am so green.

My ultimate goal is simply to have someone/where pay me to put into paper and print.
I know i am likely to have to start on the web, i have heard talk of publishers who will publish you and people pay for the book once they have read it.
I will look into this once i have finished and polished some of my stories.
But again i am also looking to be a script writter, as i find i can do this easily, i am starting a mini series as we speak.
But again i am looking for the people who buy and sell ideas.
I am completely an ideas man.

Funny enough, I looked at the publisher (which apparently based on the amazon description is the same one that pappasnick uses), and I looked at the requirements for the manuscript (your book that you submit to the publisher for review) and they are in fact very doable compared to academic publications.

To be honest, I think that as long as it is in relatively the same area of interest that this publisher likes and if you have a concise and well formed manuscript, it may be impossible for anyone not to get a publishing contract with them. But that is probably the most difficult part of all I think(the composition), not the actual material. I also read that they heavily emphasize front/back matter and Chicago-esque composition.

What I would say though is that it looks like, as far as philosophy and history go, they don't require peer review (the major stumbling block of many aspiring authors). My senior year I wrote a small article (literally 3 pages) for the historian through Phi Alpha Theta and it took more than 6 months to go through the two staff editors and Blackwell publishing. And that is not including the peer review requirements (subject to multiple revisions) and the forward (essentially by a sponsor and guarantor for your work). But this may have all been because it was an academic journal though. It looks like Algora does not have this though, so more power to us I suppose.

If anything, give it a shot because it looks like they may just say try again rather than a flat out no.
