Just one though that struck me: If one member of this forum here dies, he/she will simply stop posting. We will never know what happened to him/her, unless he/she has personal friends or relatives here who tell us, what sounds very unlikely. Now, isnt that creepy? =)

@manored,
It is even creepier when one finds out that a Member has died. As some of you know, I am involved as a Member of the staff in another much larger forum in addition to Philforum. Two weeks ago, we were informed that a very respected and loved staff Member died quite suddenly overnight. It was very literally as if a close friend or a family Member in real life had passed away.

Wouldnt death in real life be a lot scarier if people just puffed out of existence, without warning or foretelling? =)

@manored,
some of us are friends off the forum though still in cyberspace, and we will post if we know someone died.

my best friend ever was from a forum, for ten years we emailed daily. her roommate told me when she died, and i told some people on other forums where i knew she was posting. and it was really creepy...i still miss her, and could run into some old posts of hers too...

i like best when i used to move away from nice neighbors and i could pretend they never died-they are still alive today, even though i havent seen them in thirty years and they were in their 80's then. they are like still alive for me.

@salima,
In a very real sense by us being present here means we will never die.

@salima,
I think if you want people to know you should make a list you want to have informed, just as in real life.

@manored,
... even creepier if someone posts after its learned they've already passed on.

P.S.: I just instructed my wife to post here if such happens to me; how's *that* for forethought!

I think this shows you genuinely care about this place and its people.
I tend to think that it is also good of people when they do move on from a place such as this it is curtious to tell someone that you are leaving.
But there is also something to be said of the imagination someone is still out there somewhere as opposed to gone from us for good.

@Wisdom Seeker,
Put the forum in your will.

Does anyone think enough of this place to have it detailed in their last testament?

Dont forget a charity in your will.

Is this place a charity?
(think about that question)

---------- Post added 04-20-2010 at 12:23 AM ----------

Do we heal here?

Are we a benefit to Humanity and or God here?

You don't really have to go that far. There are a few internet companies that will inform anyone on your list if you should die. The company you go with could be included into your will then they do all the work to inform whom ever you want notified. It's a good service.

@Krumple,
(this should probably be it's own thread) (EDIT: This thread can be found elsewhere so as not to distract from the original question, read here answer there)

Do you have a will?

What is in it?

What is it about?

What does it say about you?

Why do you have a will?

Why do you not have a will?

What are the benefits of having one or not?

Why should i have a will or not?

Who cares? right?

Been online much, through that time been 1 allerged death, was a huge suprize when that person was gone for months and suddenly reappeard, when some dude postulated he was dead.

Has been in guild with a woman with cancer in WoW, now she's allergedly dead.

Even though I'v never met them, it still kicks off some feelings.

@manored,
I think we had all better check in when to leave, so those who worry will know we have not checked out. Or, we could take attendance a couple of times a day.

I wouldnt say we will never die, but rather that we will never be forgotten. But who we were will probally lose itself over time, and only what we said will remain. Its like ancient statues: nobody is sure of what they meant anymore, but they are there.

You forgot to consider the possibility of she dying with you =)

Sorry I just love poiting out loopholes =)
