I have found that there are alot of hermits here, or this is how alot of you would describe yourself,
this being my first dip into the pool of philosophy,
I was wondering if you also would describe yourself as a hermit or anchorite or recluse?
And more so do you think philosophers tend to be this way, tend towards segregation?
Do you think it more likely a philosopher will be produced for someone who spends more time with their own thoughts than sharing them with others?
And in being so do you think they can view humanity and all the wonderous things that goes on 'better' 'detached' than a more active participant in humanity?
Are we not blind?
Or do we not see clearer?
Is philosophy the go to world of the anchorite, hermit, recluse?

@sometime sun,
The hermit's thinking, separated from the world, is unprotected, and usually ends in poetry of the high fantastical kind that rejects the world and life; the philosopher's thinking, even if the meditation be done in isolation, by engaging itself with the world and Others, is forced to communicate itself and articulate itself and make its way in the world.

The technique of conscious contemplation leads to an understanding of one'splace in the universe. More adept contemplators gain an understanding of the places of the things around them in them in the universe as well.

In society, the things around us were created by the hands of men, with each individual's intent included in its inception. For those learning to understand the things around them it is easier when one is surrounded only by the things of nature and not the creations of man.

Almost every spiritual master leaves the things of men behind for some time and embraces only the things of god. Its a purification technique and produces significant results.

@sometime sun,
I spend a fair share of time alone, both out of doors and in. I don't, however, behave in any way like a hermit.
Thinking and learning about the world is an occupation best pursued alone, I am more observant when alone.
On the other hand, I learn as much from other people as I do from my solitary observations, it is ,I think, important to strive for balance between my social life and my solitary life.
