Hello, I have not got much to say. I am an Australian and have interests in Philosophy, Psychology, Literature, Biology and Law. I hope to lurk a bit and learn the ways of this board before making any serious contribution or input.

Cheers!

In that case, I will stop wasting my time trying to learn anything about the non-existent mind of Plato, because the brain of Plato has long since rotted away inside his skull.

Looking on the bright side, however, I can draw interesting conclusions, such as that John Searle and Hubert Dreyfus must be close to one another, because their brains work in the same building in the same university department of philosophy.

So philosophy lives on.

I am not sure it is correct to say brains work either, since nothing gets done by mearly of thinking of it..

@Fido,
I'm still left wondering how I should have phrased my casual remark. ``In what space do brains qua minds exist?'' Would that have fixed it for you? I can't see that it adds anything useful, myself. Are there any other common words I should be careful not to use in the common way? And should I be thinking of writing to the editor of my favourite dictionary, to have the noun mind removed, or at least marked as obsolete?

It's all go here, as you can see, Minimal! :arguing:

Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to the theory of eliminative materialism. :whip:

Thank you very much John! I got sucked into a discussion about Nihilism in the Metaphysics board - hopefully I can work my way from there to other areas of the board.
