Hi there everyone,
I'm a 23 year-old woman from Portland, Oregon. I am a philosophy neophyte, but have been interested in getting immersed for some time now. I have been studying French and Anthropology and am getting ready to graduate. I regret not having studied philosophy but there is no reason why I can't start now.

No pretense here, I'm going to need a simple introduction into the world of philosophy. I thought that the Philosophy Forum would be a great place to elicit help in understanding philosophical concepts and jargon.

At the moment I'm really interested in Derrida and Deconstruction, but the mere vocabulary leaves me baffled.

I can't wait to talk to you all

Not only you, to be sure. Some of the earlier philosophers might be a better place to begin your study of philosophy. There are several threads in the Phil.101 Forum that comment on readings for people relatively new to philosophy, and you might want to start there.

One of the great aspects of Philforum is that there is a pleasant mix of beginners and people more versed in the subject, and that both groups actually talk to one another. I think you will soon be "at home" here.
Welcome to Philforum!
Regards,
John
