Hi. I didn't know how to title my introduction, but I figured that since I put "vegan" in my username I have declared it as my primary identity, which I suppose it is on some level. I'm actually most interested in discussing the morality of government action, which I believe is always of questionable merit. Because of my other beliefs, it is possible I'm not a purist, but I'm pretty close.
I am writing this post without having read much on the site. I signed up originally to comment on a discussion of the feasibility of communism and anarchism. I identify as a philosophical anarchist because I believe anarchy is the most moral system, one without compulsion. Not all breeds of anarchists subscribe to that view of an anarchic society, but based on the way I define government, anyone can be a tyrant, whether or not they have an army backing them up.
In other words, I do not identify as an anarchist because I believe it is feasible, practical, or functionally superior to other systems. I simply believe it is right.
I am also an atheist, anti-abortion, animal liberationist, and other things. I don't eschew labels. I toss them around loosely. I love buzzwords. I'm contrarian. I really like an Ayn Rand quote: "Contradictions do not exist. Whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, check your premises. You will find that one of them is wrong."
I fear death. I think about it a lot. I'm seeking out the meaning of life, and I'm hoping to figure it out before I'm dead. I've been looking forward to someone convincing me of an afterlife from a very young age. I think it's a nice idea. I am vain and dislike the idea that I am impermanent.
@StephenTheVegan,
Welcome to the forum! I am an anarchist myself although I am a communist as well. I look forward to future discussions with you about government. By the way, Nietzsche says what Rand pretty much plagiarzed, although much better.
@StephenTheVegan,
Yeah? Could you post the quote? I like Nietzsche too, though I haven't read enough of his work. I like this quote of his: "A state is called the coldest of all cold monsters. Coldly lieth it also, and this lie creepeth from its mouth: 'I, the state, am the people.'"
How would you define anarchism? I'm not asking for anything too specific, but what would you say is fundamental? Would you agree with my focus on compulsion as the central defining characteristic?
