Abuse within "The Family"
Also, we find out about a controversial religious group called "The Family International", also once known as "Children of God". It was created in the 1960s by David Berg. Though he died in 1994, the group still has thousands of members on several continents. A documentary recently shown on British television investigates the story of Ricky Rodriguez, once seen as David Berg's chosen successor and tries to explain why he killed himself after murdering another member of The Family. Two former members of the group, Sarah and Don, tell Outlook why they think what they claim is institutionalised sexual abuse is the reason behind Ricky's actions. A spokeswoman for the group finally tells us why they deny these allegations.

You can listen to the entire show at the link above in streaming Windows Media Audio or RealAudio. I am working on getting an mp3 of the segment to add to our archives using the instructions at http://www.elsewhere.org/journal/archives/2004/09/25/howto-capture-streaming-audio-for-later/

I've temporarily posted the full program in WMA format here.

I use an excellent program by Xi called Net Transport, which is fully functional nagware, to very easily and rapidly capture streaming Windows media audio and video (it supports other formats and protocols as well, but I've only ever used it for streaming wma/wmv). It took about 25 minutes total to create the nearly hour-long WMA (the stream source is here). MP3 format would be preferrable for the archives, but hopefully it will be easy to convert it and extract the segment with the right software.

[25:55, 4.45MB]

I used mplayer to dump the WMA stream to PCM wave and Audacity and LAME to extract the segment and encode it to mp3. It would be nice to have a transcript.
