Smith, 51, was killed at her apartment on the 2500 block of North Los Altos Avenue by a man she helped raise in Family International, also known as the Family and The Children of God, a rigidly structured religious group. The man - Ricky Rodriguez, 29 - drove to Blythe, Calif., after the killing and shot himself to death. Case cleared exceptionally.
