The Family in Taipei
Hi, I'm not an X- family member or anything, but I'm a student with YWAM here in Taipei, I am currently doing a coarse called School of Biblical Studies (or SBS). You basically go through inductively though the bible and study it pretty hard-core like (inductively meaning not coming at the bible with a thesis/preconception, but observing as best you can from the text and base what the bible says on what the bible says, not trying to pull out what you want to be there [or not there].)

I have recently come aware of this weird little sect called the family, and there presence here in the same place where I am doing ministry. And also studying the bible and especially Ephesians and 1 Timothy and how they were written to the church in Ephesus. In how the church was so young there and all the crazy false teaching having influence on the church. I think it mirrors the ministry environment here. With the Mormons and Jehovah's witnesses and The Family all over the place here.

I was wondering whether I can gain any information on where in DanShui, Taipei I can find these guys, or even anything you think I should know.

I don't know, you guys might not be able to help me much, but I'm just really starting to get a heart for the people here in Taipei and also for those who might lead them astray to anything that might try to add or take away from gospel, that is Christ's sacrifice and propitiation for our sins.

thanks alot, srsly.

i, for one, wouldn't trade their brand of religion for yours. i don't think that there is anything you could do to help without being much more knowledgeble of the family, it's doctrines (many of which are straight from the bible as well), etc.

As far as there doctrinal statement on there website goes, it's pretty straight forward for the most part as your standard reformed theology, but as soon as it gets into the spiritual realms, concerning the Holy Spirit being "feminine", and the "Keys of the Kingdom" (which someone would have to explain to me, because the scripture they source for it is very general). It just starts to get interesting.
What they have to say about prayer and the dead interesting too. That the dead in Christ can talk to the living through it, and actually help out a lot in prayer.
That, and a whole other slew of stuff I didn't even begin to know about when I found Xfamily.org.

But the sexual stuff is actually on there site, and I would have to say, that stuff is the easiest one to refute out of any of the false doctrines, because of was the language the New Testament was written in.

Almost every time the New Testament talks about sexual immorality, the word translated is "porneae" (I think that's how you spell it), and it almost directly translates into anything that is outside of the bond of marriage. Crap, just look at Titus for an example.
So how could new revelation that the leaders get completely contradict the New Testament writers?

And I don't even have to mention some things that could be still going on inside that are damaging people almost beyond repair.

No question they are full of it, but in the early days they witnessed primarily to the very young, unchurched, unschooled, helpless sheep and filled them so full of lies, that they literally couldn't think straight any more! Beware! You're looking into something deeply, deeply sick and evil!

oh come on. so much drama. it's not like that at all right now. they are not evil. i hope that people who don't know them will learn a bit more about all sides before they try to do any harm to them. they don't need any more of that. they are peaceful and loving, dedicated to jesus and "preaching the gospel" but dilusional. what they really need is to be allowed to be more open to the world, and gradually everyone will leave.

Cookie said it best: Far too much drama. What is really going on here is millennia of endless fighting of various factions (or sects or cults) over interpretations of the Bible (more often than not on minuscule passages and trivial matters). Your definition of "evil" is another man's dogma.

I wouldn't realy catagorize this as fighting over dogma, and besides, that's a completely different subject then what I started out with. Who said anything about the millenia of "faction wars" within Christianity?
