Apparenly the murder happened on Saturday evening, January 8th, 2005 while the suicide occurred early Sunday morning, January 9th, 2005. This may explain why there are seemingly conflicting dates.

As noone actually witnessed the suicide it is difficult to pinpoint it exactly, and really, it isn't so important to know when, is it?

It is important when trying to ensure an article about the event is accurate. However, note that this question was asked nearly a year and a half ago. Initial media reports had given the date of the murder-suicide as January 9th. It has since been well established that the events occured over the 8th and 9th.
