staff to patient raio
How many nurses or family members of loved ones are comfortable with the current laws governing the nurse to patient ratios in long-term care facilties?

I am writing a research paper and would appreciate any opinons you have on this topic.
Thanks!

Staff:Patient ratio
Let me start this by saying that I am an RN on the other side of the fence and if this experience doesn't make me a better nurse then nothing will!

I have recently placed my father in a nursing home for Rehab after an extensive surgery and hospital stay. We were very lucky to get him into the finest nursing home in our hometown. Although they are top notch in every way, the staffing in insufficient. After 5 days of observing them, I have to say that they are very experienced. I see a lot of compassion and caring going on. But, I also see them running around like they are going nuts. We have had the call light on for several minutes at a time with no answer! Trust me, this is my biggest pet peeve! They need more help to get their jobs done safely and efficiently for the patient! After watching them for five days, I have to say the ONLY time I have seen the CNA's pause for one second was to give the residents a hug or a friendly "quick" chat! Sad
