What Next
I will be finishing a MSN in End of Life Care from George Washington University in May. I had planned on getting my NP from University of Alabama Birmingham and practice as a palliative nurse practitioner. However, I recently found out about Medicare is tighting its payments especially to hospice organization. You can bill for palliative care when associated with a hospice, but once someone elects the Medicare hospice benefit a nurse practitioner can no longer bill for that. I know things are only going to get tighter in this area. I have a real passion for teaching and have to very good prospects for teaching nursing and the possiblity of developing a palliative nursing course for one university. I questioning whether its worth going on to get the NP. Anyones imput would be welcomed.
