Hi,

I am a newbie on this forum and needed an answer to a question. In my dissertation, I am trying to explain the terms 'sensitivity' and 'specificity'.

Can someone have a quick read of this excerpt just to check if am on the right track or not (?):

"The terms sensitivity and specificity are frequently used in the assessment of imaging modality performance, and other medical tests, in their suitability to effectively demonstrate particular clinical pathologies. As to illustrate how an imaging modality demonstrates particular pathologies more effectively than others, a previously used example in this review can be used. Ultrasound cannot directly demonstrate ureteral calculi; however computed tomography has the ability to do so.
The term sensitivity indicates the proportion of known diseased persons who are identified as being diseased by a diagnostic imaging scan. It is a measure of the probability of correctly diagnosing a condition. The higher the sensitivity of a screening modality, the fewer positive cases of disease are undetected.

Specificity is the proportion of clinically verified non-diseased (healthy) persons who are identified as non-diseased by a diagnostic scan. The higher the specificity, the fewer healthy people are diagnosed with a particular pathology."

Thankyou so much for your help,

Best Regards,

Abbas
