False Accusations ....What to do ?
I have reason to believe that my travel contracts keep getting cancelled because I have one short leg and walk with a limp....this does not now and has never kept me from providing proper care to my patients. I realize this is a violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act, but they always seem to find some other "fault" with me....
I was first told that I refused to comply with drug testing, but when informed that I not only complied, that I also had a receipt to prove it, the story changed. Then I was told I was "difficult to orient"....the unit was so terribly short staffed that I received less than 5 minutes of orientation and managed to provide safe patient care despite it all. Then I was told that I had "no clinical skills"....that seemed overly broad/generalized....and if I truly had no clinical skills, why is it that I was able to manage to care for 5 critical care patients over a period of 2 shifts, titrating drips etc. and have them come out alive and smiling without any orientation ?
I had hoped to get out of politics by traveling.....any ideas ?
Thanks.
false accusations
Do you really think that you are being discriminated against? I would work for another organization if this was truly the case. There are those people out there who stereotype people and assume that if they limp they must not be as competent, which is quite silly as we know. Some People are IGNORANT!!!
In refernce to your limp, this is totally off subject,.... have you tried getting a lift or special shoes that would alleviate this? The reason I ask is that my friend had the same problem and as a result there was abnormal wear and tear on her hip and back from walking uneven. She has had to see an orthopedist to help her deal with the problem.
Good Luck
False Accusations ....What to do ?
Re: Nurselou off topic comment
Thanks...
I do have "altered" shoes to balance things out, but I still walk with a limp...that gets worse when I am not permitted regular breaks (you know...those little 15 min. things that nurses so seldom get ? )
The last company I worked for demanded to know before anything else if
I was handicapped/required accommodations to do my work.... I wanted to write in the blank..... regular breaks and meal periods as required by law....
but I was afraid that would be taken poorly...
Then the check for travel expenses bounced.....and I haven't gotten a paycheck yet....but that's a whole different topic !!
You are correct that altered shoes do make a tremendous improvement !
