Hi!
I completed my training last year. You have the option of either the diploma or the degree. With the diploma you get a statuary bursary which although it isnt a huge amount, is more than most students get. You will also have all your tuition fees paid for also. With the diploma, you will have to fund yourself which can be difficult, as placements and college work does not allow you to have a regular job alongside training. But, as a carer, you should be able to do odd shifts. There is not much difference between the diploma and the degree, i think you just get more credits for doing the degree. I did the diploma as i couldn't afford to pay to do the degree. It does not make any difference to your qualifications at the end, and you will not get any extra money for having a degree. However, I think in the long term, you may have to convert a diploma into a degree.
When i trained the only qualifications you needed were 5 gcse's above grade C, including english maths and science. I believe you now need experience too (which you have). As for where you would train, you need to look into your local universities to see if they offer the training. Hope that helps a bit, and good luck, it is hard work but thoroughly worth it.

Hi,

I started my nursing diploma in September at Worcester Uni. To qualify for the course you needed at least one A level (or equivalent) and experience in care/nursing. There was also a selection day, which included a maths test (really not difficult - I panicked about it so much and it really was basic maths) and a discussion group along with an interview panel at the end of the day.

I know a lot of people did a year long access course to qualify for the course, but I don't know if any funding was available for this.

I'm loving the course - just wish I'd done it years ago!

Good luck,

Tig
