SOOOO Confused!!!
I am a medical assistant, and I have been wanting to get into nursing for a while. I eventually want to be a part time RN. I just dont know where to start or what the best route to go is.

Should I start with an LPN program? Is there any way I can get straight into a program to get my Bachelors? I just need to know the best and simplest way to go. ANY help is appreciated.

Thanks! Very Happy

Nursing schools
Hi Nikki,
My name is Christina and I'm currently a nursing student at Touro University. Before I got admitted into my nursing program, I was in similar situation. I worked in a nursing home as a CNA and completed my pre-req at the same time. I understand that nursing schools are so hard to get in especially if you're in places such as in California.

However, have you completed your pre-requiste science classes?
There're few ways to get started.

1. Enroll a LPN/LVN class in a community college.
My dad is currently studying a LPN class in a community college. The course is cheap BUT the course is very stressful and it is extremely difficult for those who have to work and study at the same time.

2. Study a LPN/LVN class in a private college.
In California, you can complete a LPN/LVN course in 1 year. I heard that the private college is less stressful BUT it is extremely expensive. (about +$100,00 per year). Also, you will need to take some pre-requiste classes at their college prior to the program. Before you enroll in the private college, you need to make sure that the private college is accredited. Some of my ex-coworkers enrolled in a private college in California. After spending so much money on the classes, they found out that the school's not accredited. In other words, they don't know when they can take the NCLEX exam. So they wasted their time and money ><

3. Study a RN in a community college.
In California, they have 1 year RN course at the community college. There's a long waiting list and it's extremely difficult to get in. But you should try no matter what because they select the 4.0 GPA students and pick students randomly from the list.

4. Study a traditional 4 years BSN program.
It's 4 years but hey, you will get a BSN degree afterall 8)

If I were you, I will apply to the 1 year RN program at a community college and the LPN program at a private college. It will take you only a year to complete the course and you can work as a LPN/RN. After that, you can take the online course from Phoenixso that you will get a Bachelor degree of nursing.

If everything works out, I guess it'll take you about 2.5-3 years to get your degree (less than the traditional BSN) What do you think?
