is the RN degree/license portable from state to state??
how does that work?
i am a CNA (but they call it STNA in Ohio).....
and an CNA opening in another state came up (CA). I applied, interviewed for the position. the position pays / benefits are double what you get in Ohio.
IF offered and i take it, then I transfer college and continue in persuit of RN BUT in CA, does that RN training qualify you just in CA or are there steps that you take to be in complience in the state you will permanently reside?

Or can you get an RN degree and it is good to take with you whereever you may find yourself in this great USA?
How does that work?
thank you.
it is always good to be open to options / opportunities that may present theirselves to us.

Unless you work for the federal government, you have to get a license in each state you work in. Your degree is good wherever you go, not your license.

Hey that is a good question. Especially, when you are married to the military. I thought that taking the NCLEX meant you could go to any state and work. Does anyone know exactly how it works? I mean if you get your degree in say South Carolina take the NCLEX there and then had to move in 3 years what would the next step would be?

Unless you work for the federal government (i.e. VA hospital or an Army Medical Center), you need to apply for a license in the state in which you wish to practice.

I am licensed in another state. How can I become licensed in California?

Endorsement is the licensure method for registered nurses who hold a current and active license in another state in the US or Canada. The endorsement applicant must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) or the State Board Test Pool Examination (SBTPE), or the five-part Canadian examination (prior to 1980). The Canadian Comprehensive Examination is not acceptable.

Does Colorado have reciprocity with other state boards?

There is no reciprocity. Each applicant must apply for licensure in Colorado either by exam or by endorsement.
