auxiliary
hi, im looking for advice. this is a failrly long situation but reeaally need some expert opinion.

I began as an auxiliary nurse 8 months ago..it was my first job after finishing a levels so i was fairly vulnerable to say the least. I began on a breast ward, but on my first day was told that i was going to be moved to another ward where they were short staffed because this ward didnt need me just yet (due to upcoming refurbishment).

I've worked now on this urology ward for 8 months and i've really settled down here. I love the job and i work so hard and care so much for all of our regular patients that it makes me so upset to think that i'm going to have to leave.

A job did come up on the ward but unfortunately another lady in the same pozition as me also off the breast ward was given it due to her interview skills being better than mine. I just find it so unfair and upsetting that i'm going to be kicked off this ward after 8 months of hard work. It's such a stab in the back it really is.

I put all my effort into making sure every patient is happy when theres people there that hang around talking to other staff all day, i feel really poorly treated. The ward that i'm supposed to be going back to haven't even contacted me to see how i'm getting on or given me a date for when i'll be going back so i'm just a loose thread. i feel as though i may aswell be a back nurse.
annnyway, sorry its long but i really need some proffesional advice. Thankyou for taking the time to read xx

Your poll doesn't seem to be working, but the answer is:

Yes, you can do something about it! How about changing your attitude? I don't mean to sound cold-hearted or mean, and I can understand your disappointment, but what makes you think you're entitled to anything? And why the "poor me" attitude?

If everything you say about the quality of your work is true, then pick your chin up off the floor and go to your new ward prepared to do the best job you can, and prove to the powers that be at your hospital that they made a mistake! And Thank God every day that you still have a job!

I don't know how old you are, but hasn't someone taught you yet that Life Isn't Fair, but it's how you respond to life's disappointments that determines how successful you will be?

yes i have thought that, but the hospitals in the uk (here) are different to over there. You don't get credited for anything you do, and i mean anything. I don't believe that i'm entitled to anything, however, not one of the nurses off my original ward or the powers that be who moved me to the urology ward have contacted me to give me a time when i can expect to go back. Recently i was also told that they might not even need me there now. Can you imagine how that feels? i'm at a loose end. I'm not feeling sorry for myself as you imply, but this is a discussion board on which people do ask for advice.

I know that life isnt fair but all i'd ask for is a bit of information on when i'll be moved, and if they even remember where or who i am. Everyones just a face in the crowd i guess but it's so annoying, I love this ward so much. I'm sure if you loved your job that much you wouldn't take being moved in your stride.

I would do the best job i can on my old ward because thats the type of person that i am, but all i wanted to know was if theres anyone i can go to to ask about the situation.

Hi Crash..

Life is a bitch sometimes but we all have to deal with it. I know how it feels to leave a job that u absoloutly love, but then have to give up (in my case its different, i went on to nurse training) but still I had so many doubts. Think of it as personal development, go to your new ward with your head up high with a positive attitude. I know the job situation at the minute is really bad, so be thankful that they havent made u redundant. Hopefully u will enjoy your new ward, u will meet new people, different clientele, and develop new skills which in time will make u a better nurse. Good luck. x
