objects in places they should never be..
It's not that uncommon to get a child who stuffed a bean up their nose or ear but when you get an adult who should know better than to put an object up their rectum I have trouble keeping a straight face. Of course they keep a good eye on you to make sure you're not laughing at them.
How do you handle this? How do you write the complaint on the chart? Worst of all how do you refrain from asking just how this happened?

We've had patients on the floor who've done this, but I never personally took care of them, so I don't know for sure. I agree, it's a touchy subject. They are usually desperate enough, though, to say what happened when they first come through the ER, and then we are able to communicate it to each other so they no longer have to.
