laid off (unfairly)
I worked for a small family owned/operated practice for a few months before I was suddenly asked to quit. I was told I was not a good fit. I was so shocked because I never had any negative feedback or verbal warning. I got along with all my co-workers. The only thing I can think of is that I asked for an increase in pay 2 weeks prior that was promised me when I hired. Also, I took a day off suddenly a week before because my mother became very ill. I was also the only clinical person with children. I had only called in sick once. Does this sound like discrimination? Has anyone else been treated like this? What should I do?

What are the labor laws in your state? Do you work in an "At Will" state? If so, they can terminate you at any time, (just as you can quit at any time), without repercussions. But if you feel that you've been treated unfairly, and want to seek legal redress, contact an attorney.

scrubbuddy,

The organization was probably very close and clicky - while being friendly on the surface. I would think that you were not the first nurse they had hired into that position and you are probably going to be far from the last. It will be hard for any nurse to "be a good fit" unless they hire somebody that is a buddy of one of the existing staff - so that somebody will stand up for her in the background.
I think that to try to fight it would be more trouble then it is worth - every tiny inadvertent (and even imaginary) "strike" against you will have been thoroughly analyzed and justified (and possible amplified) within two days of each occurance.
Just try to get past it and go on about you job hunting. Good Luck!
