I no longer work as an infusion nurse, but you never forget. You need nurses educated in all kinds of lines and the care of those lines. Nurses who are able to start IV's and at least 1 nurse who is very good at difficulty sticks. You need policies on when to change peripheral IVs and how frequently to do dressing changes on central lines. Our company always sent antiphalactic kits out with antibiotics. You nurses will also need to be wound care nurses because many of the patients will have wound dressings. You need to be able to staff those late night starts and round the clock antibiotics. A reliable pharmacy, delivery company and someone to supply equipment and dressings. Preferrably at least one nurse who can make dissaatisfied clients happy. They will complain about the nurses techniques, how many times they had to be stuck for a site. Sometimes the dressings come off in the middle of the night and a nurse has to go do a dressing change.

HA! You are right, jhals, you never forget the good, bad, and ugly!! I was wandering if you knew the ins and outs of MD offices...such as to how infusion nursing can go into SPECIALTY offices and sell infusion therapy. Any thoughts on that? Do you know anybody in a doctor's office?
