this thread is old. but i'm resurrecting for 2 reasons --

first - to say that 12 is not much of a problem. the problem was mandatory overtime which forced me to work 16 hours (17 in actuality til report is accounted for). now those were long ... sometimes it was a night shift which merged into the the day shift, which was the hardest of all. this happened about once a month, if you didn't volunteer for 4 hours of overtime, which then took your name to the bottom of the list for mandatory OT. i played the game by volunteering to come in 4 hours early, and only had the forced OT once every few months.

secondly - i'm wondering if this is common practice in other locations.
