Need advice from some travel NICU nurses!
I am new to travel nursing and will be looking for my 1st assignement in a few months. I am particularly nervous because I was a new grad in the NICU and will have had 2 years experience working in a level III before I start to travel. My places of interest are California, Denver, and possibly Salt Lake City. Are there any places in particular that would be great for a first assignement while I'm adjusting to the experience? Any places that I should avoid? I work with a lot of travelers in the NICU now and I have heard some horror stories so I just wanted to hear some other experiences, possibly from travelers who have been to the places I am interested in. Any tips at all from nicu travelers would be helpful!!

Thanks!

Hey! I am also a NICU nurse. I started in SLC at Primary Children's. I'm afraid I have bad news though, there don't seem to be any NICU's in SLC that use travelers. I wanted to go back to Salt Lake on a travel assignment and was told that assignments in NICU there are very few and far between.
I'm now working in San Diego, not as a traveler. However, there are a ton of hospitals that use travelers here. I'm working at Rady Children's, a level 3 NICU. It's a good unit but going through some changes in how they work with travelers. I know a lot of the nurses here aren't happy with the changes (ie: no more self scheduling, canceling contracts). So I'm not sure that I would recommend coming here. I 've heard great things about Sharp hospitals. Also, if you want to go up to Northern California (Bay area) you can make A LOT of money.
Hope this helps!

Hey, the company I work for (Access Nurses) is always hitting me up for NICU II positions in KS. Topeka, Kansas City, and Wichita are all wonderful places to work. The hospitals are very wonderful, and the towns aren't bad at all!!! Hope this helps!
