travel nursing
Travel nursing companies that will RIP YOU OFF..... Intellistaff (lost a $3000. bonus) and RN Network (ripped me off for my shift dif for almost a whole year before I realized it and kept messing up my payroll all year long). Also beware of how they pay. You are contracted for 36 hours which usually includes housing. Any hours after that should be paid for at a higher rate since thay have already figured housing into the 36 hour contract. But instead you get paid at the base rate which is a ripoff. So, now the travel company is making a ton of money on your hours. Plus they try pay you only time and one half for anything over 40 hours, but in reality should be double time since the base rate is so low. think about it they are getting well over $80.00 per hour.
IS this a good offer or not.. I need some oppinions
I have just been offered a traveling nurse position from a hospital that is 70 miles from my house. I have been a nurse for 15 years. They are offering me 27/hour, no shift differential, no extra weekend pay. They pay you 1,000 a month in housing expenses and 500 every three months for gas milage. You do not get the 1,000 a month until the end of your 13 week assignment. Overtime is only paid at time and one half. I was previously earning 25/hour and traveled almost 1 hour... this was not a travel job.. I was a staff nurse.
I have heard so many others talk about getting bonuses, and higher pay..
I live in Iowa so the need for travelors is not that great. I asked if my pay was negotiable and she said "NO". I felt like if I did not take that 27/hour pay I would not get the job. Not real sure about the insurance.. need to ask more questions..
can any of you give me some advice.. is this good for travel nursing?????

That sounds really fishy to me. I know that the pay is dependent on the location but it sounds like the company is trying to take advantage of you in more ways than one. You really need to research and apply to more than one travel company to get a good idea of what there is to offer where you are going otherwise you have nothing to compare shop to. I applied to four initially and each company pitched their offers. Also use different online forums for travel nursing to help with compare shopping, Ultimate Nurse.com is a good resource too.
