can new graduate apply to ER?
Hello! I am doing my internship in ER in NYC. I would like to know if hospitals hire new graduates to work in ER straight out of college. Some say that I would need at least 1 year of medsurg before I can apply to ER. Is it true?
Thanks.

No, it's not true. Some hospitals offer special programs for new grads to help them transition to the ER, so you'll have to look around. That said, I think that spending time on a med/surg unit and in the ICU will give you the best preparation for the ER. You have so much to learn, and a new grad in the ER can feel absolutely overwhelmed if they haven't mastered the basics first.
