I want to see the USA but where to start???????
I hope someone can help me i passed the NCLEX-RN just before christmas and the time has come to decide just where in the USA i want to work. I currently live in the North East of England and am due to start working for OGP somewhere near the end of the year (or it will be by the time the visa and green card are sorted). I have 6 years experience and currently work on a Trauma Ward for the past 6 years which is med/surg specialising in orthopaedics, plastics, max fax and A&E admissions. Have a list of the usual places in the US to visit but no dea where to work. Ideally somewhere very friendly and not freezing cold (been there done that). Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ali.
Adventure.
Alize,
I currently live in Jacksonville, FL and really enjoy the weather. Also, there is a great selection of hospitals including Baptist, Wolfson's Children's Hospital, St. Luke's, St. Vincents, and Shands. I recommend Baptist Hospital! Baptist has many hospitals spread throughout the city; I currently work at Baptist South and it is a very pleasant nursing experience. Another area of Florida that I like is Naples, FL.
After saying all of the above I have lived in Florida all of my life and there are many places that I have yet to experience. I will be moving to Washington DC as a travel nurse in May of this year and look forward to seeing and living a different experience.
Good luck!
OGP
Oh, please be careful of OGP. I personally have had big, big problems with them and I know of another nurse that came to the US from England through them and when she got here they cancelled her contract and evicted her from housing. She was in a total panic with no job, no money and no home. There are other nurses who have had serious problems with this company also. Just a warning. I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm but I would hate to see you come all the way to the US just to get the shaft like so many others did.
