Length of committment to travel company?
I am a RN in California. I am thinking about taking a travel contract. However I am curious how much of a committment you have to make to your company. Can I take one contract for 6 months, then go back to being a staff RN at my hospital again? Or will they require me to do a certain number of contracts?
Also does anyone think one year of ICU experience is enough to be a traveler? I work at a Level 1 trauma center and our ICU's are very busy/ stressful. But I am still curious if I will have enough experience to be a successful traveler. Any thoughts? Advice?
Thanks!
Working a level 1 trauma center, you have enough experience. Most travel jobs will not be up to what you are used to. Many are smaller community hospitals. You can do a contract of 2 months, but most are 13 wks. you have the option to renew if you are happy with the hospital and they with you. If you are interested in staying with a level 1, Queens hospital in Honolulu is a wonderful up to date, busy hospital as it is the only level 1 in Hawaii. You can do 1 two month contract for an agency and then go about your business if you like. You are not obligated to stay with any one agency. Maybe your agency will not have a job in the area you want, so you go to another. Other nurses will tell you about higher pay so you may want to change. You are only obligated to finish your current contract. Some contracts require you pay money back if you break a contract, so be sure to read your contract carefully. Because of that, I like short contracts with the option to renew. Good luck
