student nurse needs some advice! >>
hi! i'm really excited that i've found this board because i'm going to be a senior of a four year nursing program in the fall. the past two summers i have found a position as a student nurse extern on the burn/trauma ICU. i am sure i will be offered a job on this unit when i graduate...which is exciting! i do have my heart set on travel nursing, however. while i'm young and single i want to see the country, make some money, and get as much experience as i can while my skills are fresh!! in addition to these options, i know i want to go to grad school. the problem is, i don't really know when. lately i've been thinking i should continue doing school while i'm still used to the studying, etc. does anyone have any advice about what order to do these things in, and what makes the most sense?
Since you have to have about a year's experience before you can start to travel, I would say to get your experience on the unit you worked if you're hired there. Finish your orientation and make sure you're comfortable on your unit before worrying about grad school. After orientation, see how you feel. If you still want to go to grad school, start looking and find the program that's best for you. There are many schools out there that have online master's programs. And that way you can still work on school while traveling if you want to. I'm not sure how many companies will pay for any tuition for your masters. My travel company will provide tuition reimbursement for bachelor's with some requirements regarding number of assignments and repayment.
