Please help! UK Registered Nurse Child Health
Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm a UK trained and based Paediatric Nurse who's wanted to nurse in the States for years and has actively been in the application process for over a year.
From what I understand no matter which state I wish to go to, I have to sit the NCLEX but before doing this I have to have my credentials assessed by the CGFNS - then they will say yes I can sit the NCLEX or no I can't. My problem is my training, I've been told in the past that because I'm not general trained, I won't be allowed to sit the NCLEX. After much searching I found an American agency willing to take me on, but from my previous research I'm still skeptical.
We are trained differently as student nurses in the UK to the USA, we specialise half way through our training into the field we wish to work in, in my case, Paeds, although the first half of our training is general based.
I'm currently waiting for the CGFNS response which seems to be taking forever! Can I do anything else to help my cause? I don't want to work in any other environment in which I'm trained to - I've been working in Neonates for 6 and a half years. Is there any other UK Paediatric nurses who have been through this? Can anyone else share a timeline from using the CGFNS? I sent some paperwork a month ago as did my school of nursing that has not been acknowledged yet. Or anyone who is working or has worked with a UK nurse, can they share with me what they had to go through?
Thank you!

There is not much you can do if you can't sit for the NCLEX. That is a requirement. Good Luck!

Can I ask a question? Is it possible to sit the NCLEX as an individual or do I have to get the go ahead from the CGFNS first?
Thanks!
