Tax information for traveling nurses
Does anyone have any advice regarding taxes for traveling nurses. Any specific accountants specializing in traveling nurses would be greatly appreciated.

I've been lucky in that regard as my mom is a CPA as well a good friend of mine. The best advice I can give you is to keep track of all receipts and pretty much everything that relates to travel (nursing licenses, CEU's shoes, scrubs, journal subscriptions, gas, basically everything) and then take it to an accountant the beginning of the year. I would probably skip places like H&R Block as a traveler though - they know what they're doing, but I think the people in private firms have better knowledge (I'm a little biased - mom has been private firm all career)

you should talk to the nurses you work with and ask the about their CPAs. Every state you work in that takes state taxes out of your check, you will have to file in those states. Only one Federal tax. If you find a CPA that is familiar with nursing deductions, they will be able to do your travel stuff. Lots of other people travel in their jobs, so most are probably familiar with travelers. Be sure to ask advice on how to shelter your money from taxes. Ask how often you have to go home to maintain your tax exemption for maintaining two homes
