Inquiring travel nursing
I am interested in travel nursing in the U.S. and I presently live and practice in Ontario, Canada. Does anyone know which state is best to obtain a license in to travel to different states? I currently work full time in a busy emergency department and I'm itching to see what else is out there!
Hi,
I'm not sure what you need to do to obtain a Texas license, but if you have a Texas compact license, it will be good in at least 13 other states. There are a couple of other states that are about to be compact.
There are several compact states, but the reciprocity is only in effect if you actually live in the state for a certain period of time. Regardless of which state you choose, the process has gotten to be a bit tedious coming from Canada. Just to get your work visa you need to take the NCLEX and get a VisaScreen....all totals about 600.00 with paperwork etc. There are some hospitals that will pay for the visascreen and nclex if you agree to stay for a year. That may be your best bet....pick a compact state and sign on as regular staff with a hospital for a year that will cover that stuff, then travel.
canada to the us
California pays the best salaries. I do not know what it takes to get a
liscense for a canadian, but for an american, california is a walk thru state
--that is, you can walk into the state board and walk away with your liscense about 30 minutes later. None of the states that have that program of one liscense pay as well as california. The cost of living is high too, but if your bills are based on your current salary, you will do well in California. I doubled my yearly salary when I moved to LA in 1979. I have been working travel positions around california since last
september and I had to work 60 hrs/wk in florida to make what I make in 36 hrs in california.
has anyone done travel assignments in atlanta area??? that is my next move but i would like to see some good and bad feedback about it....thnks
