Antelope Valley Hospital ER, beware!
I just finished an 8week contract to AVH ER. That was one of the worst contracts ever. If you are an ER nurse and want to function as an ER nurse, don't go there. I now have a new found respect for ICU and MedSurg nursing. If you really want to go to this hospital talk to me first please. Dont take their word for it, and how it will be.
MEDSURG NURSE HERE
HI SOUPMAN,
A NEW FOUND RESPECT FOR US HUH, I BET I CAN GUESS WHY BECAUSE IF THEY WERE ANYTHING LIKE THE ER WHERE I NO LONGER WORK THEY SEND PATIENTS THAT WERE NOT YET STABLE TO THE FLOOR AND NO CALL FIRST MANY TIMES THE ROOM WOULD STILL BE DIRTY OR EVEN OCCUPIED. IV'S WOULD BE LONG INFILTRATED PRIOR TO COMING TO FLOOR AND NOT EVEN REMOVED. MY FAVORITE WAS WHEN I WOULD CALL AND ASK THE ER NURSE FOR SOME SORT OF REPORT ESPECIALLY WHEN I SAW HEPARIN HANGING OR A PATIENT WITH A 103 TEMPT, HR OF 170 AND SOB I FELT LIKE SOMETHING SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMMUNICATED TO THE FLOOR. LOTS OF TIMES THE PATIENT NEVER MADE IT OFF THE ELEVATOR BEFORE CRASHING AND NO REPORT PRIOR. SO I APPRECIATE WHEN SOMEONE HAS RESPECT FOR THE STEPDOWN FLOORS. DON'T GET ME WRONG I HAVE LOTS OF RESPECT FOR ER THEY ALWAYS WORK THEIR TAIL OFF AND GET VERY LITTLE RECCOGNITION FOR WHAT THEY PUT UP WITH. VENT MY WAY ANYTIME I,M SURE WHEN I FINALLY GET A TRAVEL JOB I WILL NOT DOUBT HAVE SOME MED/SURG NIGHTMARE STORIES. LATER, BONNIE
