NICU Assignments in Florida?
I'm a NICU nurse with almost 14 years experience in a Level 3-4 unit in NC. I have recently received my Florida license and am very interested in doing travel assignments in the south-central part of the state, especially including the Tampa and Clearwater area.

Have any of you had NICU experience in any of the hospitals in that area? How did you like it? Were you treated well? Which one was your favorite assignment ? Also, do you have a preferred travel nursing companies where pay, benefits and perks are concerned?

One last question: Do any of you travel with more than one company, or is that possible?

Thanks!

Me too
I am a Canadian NICU nurse with 4 years of experience. I have never done a travel assignment before, but am seriously considering a trip to florida...likely Miami. If you have any suggestions/good recruiters or advice for me it would be greatly appreciated. What is a reasonable rate of pay to expect for an nicu nurse in florida?

Tampa General is a Great hospital to work at. They have a NICU. There arent many around Florida. Florida pay is lousy. If you are going to Miami,I hope you can speak Spanish because Miami is mostly Cuban and many of them--most of the elderly cant speak English. If you are going to Florida, take a travel job, I have seen some advertising $40/h and you will not get that for an agency or a hospital

This is in response to rn2ubaby's post. I just finished 13 weeks at St. Joseph's NICU in Tampa. I wasn't too crazy about it. The staff were mostly nice but I found it so disorganized. They are combination level 2 & 3 and their assignments make no sense as far as acuity. You would definitely have to lower your standards of care if you want to get through your assignment. It wasn't bad enough for me to leave the assignment early but it's very very unlikely I would ever go back there.
