Advice needed from qualified nurses!!
Hi all I'm about to start an access course in health and social science with a view to specialise in childrens nursing in the future. and I was wondering wether anybody can explain the diffenent grades in nusing in the uk.
Also some advice on different paths to take-ie diploma, degree (I'm thinking degree) but are there different types of degrees in nursing?
Any advice will be much appreciated, and if anyone knows of any good websites where I can research can you please let me know.
Thanx Confused

It depends on which country you are doing the research on.
Hi, are you looking at the Uk, or US? I assume you mean for a non-US curriculum?

So, you should start looking at sites from your specific country, because there are country differences in educational preparation, etc.

Good luck!

Hi, I know I'm a bit late here but if you haven't already found your answer here goes.

To register as a nurse in the UK you can do either the degree route or the diploma route. Both are three year courses, the only difference is the qualification that you come out with at the end and the level that you study at (Level 2 for Diploma, Level 3 for Degree). Degree and Diploma nurses both start out as a D grade or band 5. Many employers will pay for you to study for your degree while you work if you do the diploma route. For the diploma route you get a non-means tested bursary from the NHS of about 500 per month (you get your fees paid for both routes).

You have to apply through NMAS to whatever university you go to and I would advise applying early as it's quite a lengthy process.

You normally do a common foundation year where all the different specialities (mental health, child, learning dis.) are in the same classes. Then the last two years you specialise.

The best way of finding out more is to go to an open day at the university that you are looking at. You might also find out more on some of the universities own websites.

If you want anything else just ask.

BTW, I'm a student nurse and a qualify in 5 weeks (and counting, yey!).
