Male nurses in America....
OK-- I'll be brutally honest, as you requested. We LOVE male nurses! Men make great nurses, plus they are usually much stronger physically that females. Men in America seem to really prefer emergency room or become nurse anesthetists. Think carefully-- maybe you felt the females were ruder than males simply because YOU think of nursing as a female profession. Good luck and God Bless You, Peaches.

So sorry to hear about your hard time......I,personally love male nurses but understand your problem.
I don't know where you are looking to work (U.S. or abroad) but may I suggest working in a major city where there isn't much that anyone hasn't seen before...it may make you more comfortable and there would likely be more male nurses.
Best,
ER chick

I have not noticed descrimination with male nurses. I would venure to guess that it is your ethnicticity and possible your religion. If this is the case, I would remind people that though you are Islam, your failth is in God. Am I correct?(God being only a different name for the same creator?) The creator does not change, only our perception of him changes. Maybe this would be a good opportunity to explain this to people, with-out getting into huge debates(there is probably not enough time for that!) Because of all of the terrorism that is linked to the Muslim faith, there is obviously a sore spot there. However, how many of those who are anti-Muslim, are Catholic? Look at the IRA in Ireland. Look at what horrible things man has done all through history in the name of religion. I myself am of the Christian faith. I believe Jesus came to take away the fear that man had toward the Creator, and to exhibit to us the Love, compassion and mercy. There was a very rational reason for this. However, our Creator is multi-faceted, it may be that many religions together portray hime for what he is. It is not my place to judge. The spirit of a person is all that we should see. Let your faith guide you, and keep your heart open to your Creator who speaks to you. Don't allow people to lead you in the wrong direction or make you feel inferior. If you want to be a nurse because you want to help others, no matter what faith you have learned to have allegiance, the true Creator will honor that in you. Don't worry about the other blind spirited people who want to take that away from you.

How do you like the nursing profession in your area thus far? I was very impressed with the nurses I saw with my Mother in Law when she was ill. Very caring and compassionate, as were the Physicians. The only complaint that I would have, is the fact that family members are very under educated when it comes to a particular illness. They just take what ever they are told in stride; without any understanding or questioning. I have noticed this from my part of my maternal family who is fro Scotland as well.

hello. I work in a nursing home as an aid (as I continue in my journey to become an RN).
And I would like to say, Male aids are a awlesome addition to the staff. We have one patient that is X-Large and to move this patient up in bed requires one male per 2 females. Of course, we do have a hoyer that we can use, as necessary. But that man is great for the patients in so many ways. He can relate to the male patients in a way the women may not be able to, He has great logical thinking skills. on and on. Male nurses are needed!!!
have a great day. Thank you nurses for all you do !!

PS-I am new to chat rooms, it was I who went on an emotional rampage about ethniticity and faith. I wish you the best. soon2brn

YES
I have noticed discrimination in a sense but not as you wrote in your inquiry. You are as a man asked to do things that women are not asked to do such as respond to situations involving aggressive patients or visitors.
If there is any heavy lifting involved you can count on being asked.etc.I am often assigned the patients who give people a hard time because they figure that because of my build the patient will behave better. For the most part I don`t mind but sometimes it does get on my nerves when say I`m on an ortho unit and have to put ALL my patients back to bed because the day shift figured the would wait until I get in because I`m stronger than them.I have also felt the wrath of many female co-workers because of an argument they had with their husbands earlier that day. Plan on getting man bashed once in a while. ha ha
